 Don’t forget that August 23rd is our annual guild AUCTION. I need a list of items from your photography closet that you are willing to donate to the auction. You’ll need to note on the list that the cash received will go 100% to the guild or note a reserve amount that you must receive on an item and that any amount received above that reserve will go to the guild. This is an easy way to make extra cash from all of that photography gear that as been collecting dust. The auctions in the past have brought in some really good items that people always were looking for but could not find at a reasonable price.

 BE SURE TO SPREAD THE WORD TO ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT THE AUCTION!!! Please email me your list of items no later than August 12th, so we can advertise the auction. Now go dig through that closet, and find some good stuff to sell!

Webster’s defines stewardship as the conducting, supervising, or managing of something; especially: the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care. We as photographers have a certain responsibility to take a stewardship of our community. Our craft is a gift that we can utilize to benefit others. This month’s speakers Peggy Custred of the Families First Network and Kay Brown will talk about just how we can become involved in our communities with things like NILMDTS, Families First Network adoptions and Operation Smile.

Cathy has worked with Peggy’s charity and seen great rewards. She has photographed foster children who are up for adoption and the images are used on the foundation’s website for perspective parents to view. One of her images was of three older siblings, a very hard placement, who wanted to stay together. Her images of those children helped them find a forever home together. So come and learn how you can become proactive! On another note, work on your edge lighting or separation of light for this month’s print competition and don’t forget that the category for July is your interpretation of wet.

Join us on May 24th at our new meeting location at Scully’s on the Byou in Fort Walton Beach to see a wonderflu program on contemporary portraits and lighting from Greg Jeannie Forehand. Both the Forehand’s are almost finished their master photographer status and both are Certified Professional Photographers. Greg and Jeannie will be discussing lighting and posing. They will demonstate with live models (where possible) photographing with several types of light modiofiers and different ratios. They will also talk about photographing on location inside and outside. In addition, they will show example of high-key and low-key images, and how to select proper backgrounds and props. They certaily aren’t the biggest studio operation, and have no employees. But they are committed to providing their clients with the best experiences they can, are always open to learning more about how to be better photographers, and are dedicated to sharing their knowledge with those photographers who want to learn!
